Young guns leading Twins surge
by The Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Twins starters have gone 12-2 over the last 18 games with an ERA of just 2.82.

With those kinds of numbers, there's no room in the rotation for young guns in the minors like Francisco Liriano (leer-ee-AH'-noh).

Manager Ron Gardenhire says a lot of teams would like to be in that position, with talent in the minors waiting to be called up.

Going into the season, the Twins stressed the inexperience of their staff. But Scott Baker, Nick Blackburn, Glen Perkins and Kevin Slowey have thrived recently, and veteran Livan Hernandez has brought stability to the rotation.

The Twins open a weekend series with the Tigers tonight at the Dome.
