BROOKLYN CENTER — Hennepin County Medical Examiner is identifying the man shot and killed outside a Brooklyn Center hotel earlier this week.
He's 31-year-old Mohamed Muse Jama of Minneapolis. The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide caused by a gunshot to the head.
Police say Jama was found dead at the Crowne Plaza Hotel's front entrance about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday. They believe Jama was targeted, but they don't think it was drug or gang-related.
Mohamed Jama's brother, 27-year-old Arie Jama, was shot and killed six months ago in Minneapolis.
Somali community leader Saeed Fahia tells the Star Tribune Mohamed Jama was a respected mentor and youth basketball coach in the Twin Cities immigrant community.
