No DNA from MN bus crash suspect found on airbags
by The Associated Press
MARSHALL — Attorneys for the woman accused of driving the van involved in the fatal Cottonwood school bus crash say her DNA was not found on the van's two front airbags.
The attorneys for Olga Marina Franco del Cid tell the Star Tribune that the tests show DNA from an unidentified male. Her attorneys say the findings are significant because, they say, if Franco had been the driver, her DNA would probably have been found on the driver's airbag.
She claims she was in the passenger seat and her boyfriend was behind the wheel but fled after the crash. He has not been found.
Franco is charged with criminal vehicular homicide and criminal vehicular injury from the February 19 crash which killed four children.
Lyon County Attorney Rick Maes says he wants to try the case in the courtroom and has no comment about the significance of the DNA testing.
