Brother of suspect in Madison murder had called 911 about behavior
by The Associated Press

MADISON, Wis. -- Police in Madison, Wisconsin, say they had no reason to suspect a college dropout killed a man when they received a 911 call about his behavior in March.

Adam Peterson was charged last week with the January 28th murder of Joel Marino.

Peterson's father says the Stillwater High School graduate had a psychotic episode in March that prompted his twin brother to call Madison police.

Police say they checked on Peterson's welfare but are offering no details about how they handled the incident. Afterward, Adam Peterson checked into a hospital's psychiatric ward for a week before moving back to Minnesota.

The incident was serious enough to land Peterson's name on a bulletin that alerted officers he could have mental health problems.

But police spokesman Joel DeSpain says the 911 call alone was not enough to suspect Peterson killed Marino.
