Burnsville man gets 10 years for drug smuggling
by The Associated Press

HASTINGS -- A Burnsville man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in smuggling marijuana from Arizona to Minnesota.

The sentence for 32-year-old Jamie Eugene Bannochie Dalton was an upward departure from state sentencing guidelines. Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom says the sentence was warranted because 350 pounds of marijuana with a street value of more than $700,000 was involved.

Dalton had pleaded guilty to a single count of conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime.

Officials say a Rosemount man told authorities he was transporting the pot from Arizona because he was trying to repay his son's drug debt to Dalton.
